New obsession

Okay, I must be completely honest here. I am unabashedly obsessed with a new show.

Yes, that would be the Shahs of Sunset. I got hooked on it this weekend, watching it with my mom. Just in time to record a bunch of episodes before the season finale aired on Sunday.


I'm a bit embarrassed to say that I can't stop watching this show. In some ways, I think it shows my less cerebral, shall we say, side. I have more respectable tastes....I like The Good Wife. I've even been known to watch 60 Minutes with my husband. But....like Jersey Shore, this show is much like a bad train wreck that you can't stop watching. 


It's so over the top....I can hardly believe there are people who are so out of touch with reality.


Still, it's pretty funny. And I can't stop watching. : )

Super Sunday and other

So, here it is....Super Bowl Sunday. The end of pro football for this year, all the way from last August. Will you be watching?


Truth be told, I like to watch just for the ads. I think I got hooked on this when I was a kid and the Bud Bowl became such a big ad during the game for several years.

For not being their target audience, I sure was hooked. Maybe it worked out for them anyhow, since I've been known to enjoy a few cold ones.

Plus, it is a good excuse to enjoy yourself a bit. So, I picked up a take 'n' bake pizza at Costco yesterday ($3 off) and my man went out last night to pick up some Miller High Life. We classy like that. It is the Champagne of Beers, you know. It makes me wish that the Super Bowl was on a Saturday....so I could enjoy my High Lifes (Lives?) and not worry so much about waking up to teach the youth of America the next morning.

I'm also excited that Downton Abbey is new again tonight. Could it be airing against the Super Bowl because:
a) Brits don't care about the Super Bowl, they have their own football?

b) People who watch public television don't care about the Super Bowl?

Besides that, not much else going on. I have a little craft project I have to do--not nearly as enjoyable as ones you choose to do. Perhaps I'll share a pic of the finished product. It has to do with a costume. Intrigued????

Oh, and last night, we were cleaning house--because that's how we rock Sat. night around here--and my husband had cranked up the 80s channel on cable for our cleaning enjoyment. "Talk Dirty to Me" came on, so immediately, all of us rushed to the kitchen to sing along and dance. Complete with brooms posing as guitars. I really love Poison. My favorite tunes for working out. I think Bret Michaels is kind of hot, too.

Here's hoping that my son doesn't go off to school and tell his teacher he loves the song "Talk Dirty to Me." Or "Don't Need Nothin' But a Good Time."

Project Runway All-Stars?

I must be honest....I have been in heaven since regular TV started up again. Not that I don't enjoy some good holiday programming, but I tell ya, I like having something to look forward to each week. And in the evenings once the kids are in bed and I am "off duty."


I've been watching Project Runway All-Stars a bit since it started. 

I'm not 100% sold on it. It's on my B list....it gets watched when all of my other shows have been taken care of. It's a bit like the poor man's Project Runway......Project Accessory was like that, too, but way worse than this go-'round. But for the All-Stars? No Heidi Klum and no Tim Gunn. Makes for a bit of a dry show. The only thing I do enjoy is some of the people they have brought back.


First of all, the host......Angela Lindvall--pretty and not bad. Better than the Accessory host (who was wooden, not exciting at all and I cannot remember her name) but how can you follow H.K. and be better? Not possible.


I think one of my main beefs with this show is that some of the people aren't....well, all-stars. It's almost like some of the people who truly qualified to be an all-star didn't want to do it, so they went to their B list. Here are my non-all star people:

• Elisa--very weird. Anyone surprised she was eliminated first? I am surprised that she wasn't kept longer just for the entertainment value.
• Jerell--I don't even remember you or what season you were on, so clearly you cannot be all-star material.
• Sweet P--I think the name is a bit annoying and I don't recall her being that great the first time she was on.
• Kara--annoying. I am incredulous that she was not eliminated this week. Another who was not really a standout the first time around. Her fashion style leaves something to be desired as well. Although I'm not a fashion designer....I don't think it's unreasonable to expect fashion designers to be....well, fashionable?
• Kenley--also annoying to me. Always makes the same thing. Reincarnated from the '50s.
• April--although I like her toughness and how buff she is, I can't get over her hair. It looks like Kelly Obsbourne's right now (did you see her on the Globes red carpet?)....a mix between purple and grey.
• Gordana--very likable and nice, but her designs are not so memorable.

And....the mucho all-stars:

• Austin Scarlett--love, love, LOVE. One of my favorites ever. Love the flamboyancy. But he needs to lose the porn 'stache.
• Rami--although not much in the personality department, I like his clothes. One of the talented who never won.
• Anthony--hilarious. Cracked me up before and now. Not that he's that great of a designer, but he's funny as hell.
• Michael C.--love his clothes. I don't think he got the credit he deserved his first time...they got a lot of play off the drama between him and the other designers. I think he's kind of sweet and I root for him.
• Mondo--one of my favorites ever. He always has a different perspective with his designs. I like how he and Michael C. are buddies.

So, we will see what happens....

A new Sunday night treat

As of late, I have become slightly obsessed with the show Downton Abbey.

Have you heard of it? It is a series from Britain about a titled family, their comings-and-goings and their household staff. It is set in the 1910s...right now, they are in the midst of World War I.


I watched the first episode of the second season and I am hooked. My new objective is to get caught up on season 1. Thank you, thankyouverymuch, iTunes gift card. : )


It shows here on Sunday nights at 9pm on PBS....check your local listings. It is one show I watch that my husband does not ridicule quite as much, since it has gotten excellent reviews


If you DO like the show, you should know that it reminds me very much of another British series called Monarch of the Glen.

Kind of the same premise, but set in Scotland...very funny, a little off-the-wall and very addicting! My sister turned me on to it. : )

Golden Globes

I've been enjoying a brief respite from work this weekend....we had no school on Friday and have no school on Monday. I've gotten some much-needed erranding done, including spending some of my sweet gift cards from the holidays. I'll share my major sale score later this week! I'm quite proud of myself.


My big excitement for today? Golden Globe Awards tonight.

Yes, I know what you're thinking.....that's your big excitement for the day....or even the weekend? That's right, I have potential to be a big looooos-ah. I know this event does not even land on the radar of many people.

Here are the reasons I am excited to watch....

1) I enjoy the red carpet and the fashion of all of the women. The good.....

One celebrity I can't stand? Lea Michele. Sorry, gleeks. She looks so self-absorbed all the time. I wonder if she'll be able to find work once her character graduates from Glee. 

2) Unlike the Oscars--which can be so highbrow and pretentious--the Golden Globes features movies and TV. And the actors from the best TV shows are there. Some of my favorites?

He is hosting the ceremony this year, returning from last year. If you did not watch last year, he seriously pissed celebrities off with his jokes. It was awesome!! It was said that he would never host again, but then they must have realized what a ratings boon it would be if he hosted. I think he is just hilarious....the accent, the jokes. He was recently quoted (not exactly) as saying that he was not there for the millionaires in the audience, he was there for all of the people watching at home and his jokes are what they want to see. Amen! Seriously....he was drinking a beer in the opening of last year's show, as shown above.

The Good Wife....a good show

Well, I have to be honest....I've been a much happier person since my shows started up about a month ago. I definitely have a full docket. Thursday is a busy night with Grey's, Private Practice and Project Runway. PR is ending soon, so that will relieve the pressure a bit. My husband and I are enjoying Modern Family. Thanks to our DVR, I'm able to tape the shows and watch them throughout the week so I don't O.D. on shows too quickly.

My favorite newest show is The Good Wife. It's a bit unusual for me, since it is one of the few shows that I have actually watched since the pilot.

Or, maybe it was the second episode. Either way, it is a show I really like! Each episode covers a legal case and then there are the plot developments that are built throughout the season. They have great actors....I especially enjoy Alan Cummings, Chris Noth and Michael J. Fox. They also feature some up and coming actors....I've loved Mamie Gummer, who is the daughter of Meryl Streep. It's gotten some awards and nominations. My only beef is that it moved to Sunday nights, so lately it's been getting pushed back due to Sunday NFL and if I forget, I don't get all of it taped. : )

And if network TV fails me, there are Sex and the City reruns on the DVR.

Those reruns are like a good friend you might not see in quite a long time, but with whom you have no problem picking back up.

Oooooookay.

We are officially getting to the time of the summer when the sickness hits me. I need fall TV.

STAT.

We're all caught up on our Modern Family reruns. I've taken to recording Sex and the City repeats on our DVR. It's a long time 'til the middle of September, you know.

Thank you, TV Gods, for these shows that have piqued my interest lately....

Design Star...I haven't watched all of the seasons, but I've gotten into this latest one. No one is standing out to me, but I have decided I cannot stand the host, Tanika Ray. Everything she says is so....nuanced.

Giuliana and Bill...Okay, this show could be mildly considered "mind candy." Well, maybe not mildly. I enjoy it, though. I got hooked on it last summer. I have admired how forthright they have been about their infertility. If we're keeping real here, we've struggled with what I would term "mild" infertility--and it's nothing compared to what some people experience in their quests to become parents. However, I know whether mild or not, it's so hard. I've appreciated their honesty very much.

And starting this week.....Project Runway. I've watched each season and I truly enjoy it. As a devotee of good design in general, I like seeing what the designers create. Also, they never cease to add several doses of drama! Dishing about this show with my girls--my mom, my sister and my sister-in-law--is fun, too.
